CMS Announces MSSP Participants

For Immediate Release - January 18, 2017

This afternoon, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on their website the newest participants in the Medical Shared Savings Program (MSSP).  We are pleased to inform you that the Federation ACO, including providers from Bronson, Covenant, Henry Ford Allegiance Health, Lakeland, and Sparrow, has been approved for MSSP participation.  Affirmant Health Partners received official notification of this news in December but was not able to make any public announcements. With the notice today by CMS we are now able to publically talk about our participation.  This is very exciting news for Affirmant and the member organizations that are participating in the Federation ACO. We will provide care under the program to over 70,000 Medicare beneficiaries.

An Accountable Care Organization (ACO) is a group of doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers, who come together voluntarily to give coordinated, high-quality care to their traditional Medicare patients. The Federation ACO consists of physician participants from the following member systems: Bronson, Covenant, Henry Ford Allegiance Health, Lakeland and Sparrow. MidMichigan Health already participates in the Physician Organization of Michigan (POM) ACO and Henry Ford Health System has its own NextGeneration ACO. Spectrum Health, our newest Affirmant Health Partner member, does not currently belong to an ACO. The Federation ACO will be a separate but supplemental strategy to the building of local chapter CINs. Participating in a Medical Shared Saving Plan is another way to evaluate and improve our performance as a super clinically integrated network.

Affirmant Health Partners is the name of our super clinically integrated network.  When applying for the Medical Shared Saving Program our network was still operating under the Federation name.  For the foreseeable future this ACO will be named The Federation ACO, LLC.
